Friday and Saturday was the Quilting and Fiber Arts Marketplace at the local civic center. This is an annual show that is held the second weekend of the year on a Friday and Saturday. While there are quilts to see from vendors and guild displays, you won’t find ones that have been entered for judging. This show is all about the shopping.

There were several vendors from western North Carolina, and it was nice to be able to support their businesses especially since the flooding and devastation from last fall’s hurricane. One of my favorite shops from this region, Schoolhouse Quilts, is one I have only visited at the show, but they always have an excellent selection. I also love Quilter’s Gallery for their fabric selection! A number of central North Carolina Shops were also represented, including US Fabric Shop, Loving Stitches, and Sew There!
My approach to visiting the show is to come with a BIG bag. I took my version of the “Big Blue Bag” and filled it with some really beautiful fabrics as well as a couple of notions and patterns. I like to scout out the vendors on my first pass through, and then I come back to the ones I plan to buy from. It helps to know who has show specials or just something new and unique. I was able to pick up yardage from the new Kaffe x William Morris line from Free Spirit – so pretty!

If you want a good overview of where you may find a quilt show and/or market event, check out Rona the Riveter’s list. It’s very comprehensive. If you want to be inspired and spend money, go to a quilt show/quilt market!
