I love school supplies…not just because I am a teacher by profession, but because there is something fresh and fun about them. I still like picking out new pens, but coordinating them with a newly sewn pencil case is even better.
Below are six curated links to free patterns that I found particularly appealing to my sense of aesthetics:
- I definitely want to try: Zola Pen Case (from SewCanShe) I like the sophisticated design of the open tray.
2. Another pattern that is both free and practical is this Journaling pen keeper. I plan to add it to a few notebooks I keep in my classroom.
3. The Amazing A-frame organizer looks like a good place to put some of the little things that need to be wrangled on my desk.
4. I have made this pocket organizer from All People Quilt several times, and it is always a hit as a gift. I like having one at my own desk.
5. Who doesn’t need more storage – this is a cute little free bin just for that!
6. If your school/office supplies involces normally involve a laptop, you need to have a handy sleeve. I also like the one in the orginal Sew Sweetness Minikins #1
Of course, every teacher needs a good school bag – this is my newest one. While not free, I really like this pattern. It’s the Portfolio Tote by Quilts Illustrated. I also made a matching cross-body bag from Sew Sweetness.

Happy back-to-school season!
