In my last post, we celebrated all the colors of the rainbow in quilts, and today, I’m sharing some of my favorite novelty quilt patterns. I’m a loud and colorful quilter – definitely not a monochrome or civil war-style type of quilter. There are nothing wrong with those types of quilting, but they just aren’t me!
I love the possibility of personalizing some of the quirkier quilt patterns out there. (Note: I have provided a link if you click on any of the pattern images.)
First up – Support Group, or as I like to think of it, the BRA quilt! I hope to finish the quilting this weekend when I can take it to my quilt guild and work with some big tables.

As a Disney fan, this Jen Kingwell quilt was a must-make! It is reminiscent of Mary Blair’s original “Its a Small World” artwork. I gathered as many scraps of Disney-themed fabric as I could find. This quilt is definitely a bit wonky, buit I love it and so does my daughter who has this hanging in her room. I did some hand quilting on this to resemble Disney fireworks (among other things).

My list of quilts that I want to make is a long one…here are some of the ones on my novelty quilt wish list:
- I haven’t made this one yet, but I expect to make it more than once – it’s “Take Me to the Mouse” by Sterling Quilt Company. I feel like this would be easy to adapt to a mini quilt with smaller blocks.
Good Old Hockey Game (Sew Fresh Quilts) is on my list because my oldest son is a big hockey fan, and I think it would be fun to adapt to our favorite team – the Carolina Hurricanes.

Pointless/ Lil Pointless (Villarosa) & Color My World & Pencil Club President & Color Inside the Lines

Rainbow Popsicle & Donut Delight & Two Scoops – How fun are all of these sweet treats!

Piece & Love (book) – There are quite a few quilts in this book that interest me, but my favorite might be the paintbox. (This book also could fall into my rainbow quilt category – so pretty!)

Mod TV – I have big ideas for this one. I would love to add embroidery into the TVs – maybe my favorite TV show titkes in their signature fonts?

Get Cozy Mini – How cute is this?? Make a mini living room. This so appeals to my inner child who loved her dollhouse.
Book Nerd (*& the Pen & Paper variation) – I love to read, and I would love to turn one of these quilts into an homage to my favorite books.

Baggage Claim – This pattern would make a really interesting way to remember family travels through fabric choices and embellishments on the suitcases.
Happy Notes (book) – I love how this collection of fun blocks could be made intio a really personal and unique quilting project.

Quiltmaster (Viewmaster) – This would make a really interesting I-spy quilt, or possibly a mini quilt or just one reel.
So, what do you think? Which quilt (or quilts!) do you want to make? I just want more time to make them…darn job always gets in the way of my creative time.
